Amaan Beach Bungalows, Nungwi
We have stayed at Amaan Bungalows on several occasions and have never been disappointed. As their brochure says:
"Amaan Bungalows combines being a large accommodation centre with the elegant simplicity of design, creating a feeling of familiarity and intimacy within the lively atmosphere of Nungwi".
The seafront rooms have delightful wooden balconies that are directly above the beach, the ideal place to relax in an evening with your favourite drink watching the sun go down on the horizon. Rooms (single, double and twin) are tastefully furnished in traditional style with en suite facilities and air conditioning. Breakfast is provided in The Fat Fish Restaurant adjacent to the bungalows and there are also a number of other excellent restaurants nearby. Amaan has its own internet café and shop, and the reception staff will be pleased to arrange a variety of excursions or activities for you.
We highly recommend Amaan Bungalows – good quality accommodation, ideal location overlooking the beach, friendly staff, good food, all providing excellent value for money.
Cefa House, Dar es Salaam
If you prefer good accommodation on a lower budget, Cefa will meet your needs. It is situated in Mikocheni on Old Bagamoyo Road, Dar es Salaam, about a 30 minute drive from the airport. Cefa is run by an Italian organisation and we always use it as our base when we are staying in Dar.
Cefa is secure in its own grounds. Rooms are modern and comfortable, all with air conditioning and en suite facilities, and the staff are all so friendly and helpful.
Accommodation includes an Italian breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also available if required. There is also an excellent restaurant, Malaika House, a few minutes away, where you can enjoy your dinner in the open air under the palms a few metres away from the Indian Ocean, often with a live band providing entertainment.
We have used Cefa for a number of years ourselves and always enjoy its relaxed, easy-going atmosphere.
Dhow Palace Hotel, Zanzibar

Tembo House Hotel, Zanzibar
The Tembo House Hotel is situated in the heart of Stone Town in Zanzibar on the picturesque sea front, It is a magnificent building, which has had many functions over the years.

The Africa House Hotel, Zanzibar

We have stayed at several hotels in Stone Town, one of the best being The Africa House Hotel. The hotel’s brochure says ‘No visit to Zanzibar is complete without experiencing the regal ambience of The Africa House Hotel’. We would agree with this without hesitation. The hotel was once a royal residence before becoming the English Club. It combines the charm of old world elegance with the comforts and conveniences of today. The 15 rooms are all elegantly furnished, all with en suite facilities, air conditioning and satellite tv. The hotel has a rooftop restaurant and a terrace bar. Africa House is located in an ideal spot, close to the centre of town and overlooking the Indian Ocean.
White Sands Beach Resort, Dar es Salaam
Just a 30 minute drive from Dar es Salaam International airport, White Sands Beach Resort is an ideal place to start your stay in Tanzania. It is situated on Jangwani Beach overlooking the Indian Ocean, with its own pristine private beach and three small uninhabited islands.
It has 88 rooms, plus 28 suites. All rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, internet connection room safes and tea and coffee making facilities. White Sands has 4 restaurants, including Mchanga Beach Café which is an open plan restaurant situated on the edge of the beach overlooking Mbudya Island. There is a poolside Coffee-Shop and three bars.
The choice of international and local cuisine in the restaurants will satisfy all tastes. We have always been impressed by the quality of meals and friendly service at White Sands.
There is regular live entertainment and the resort can arrange water sport activities and boat trips. There is also a fully equipped gym, saunas, steam baths and massage room.
The hotel brochure says “The only thing we overlook is the Indian Ocean” and that really sums it up!
Z Hotel, Nungwi, Zanzibar
The Z Hotel in Nungwi is the newest hotel in the resort, offering chic luxury accommodation in a prime location overlooking the beach. We visited the hotel in April prior to its opening in May/June. The staff and management are extremely friendly and welcoming and were pleased to show us the high standard of accommodation. We also enjoyed an excellent meal in their already open first floor Calabash restaurant overlooking the bay. There is also the Cinammon cocktail bar.
There are 35 cool and contemporary rooms in 6 designs – Superior, Deluxe, Top Suite, Ocean Front Cottages with access to the beach, plus the Honeymoon Suite with its 2 terraces. Each room is tastefully decorated and furnished to the highest standard and has French doors that lead to a balcony with views over the crystal blue Indian Ocean. Our interior photographs were taken in one of the Ocean Front Cottages.
The Z Hotel is highly recommended for those wishing a touch of real luxury during your 'African experience'. Also an ideal honeymoon destination.
